So, it looks like a bunch of Radical employees are being laid off...'Bout a hundred. Now, before we jump to any conclusions, we must keep in mind that we're not quite sure what employees have been laid off. So what this means for the next Crash game can't really be determined yet... But it could potentially have a negative effect.... Or positive depending on how you feel about Radical's games.... but either way this really sucks for those employees who lost their jobs. Hope they can get work somewhere else.I SAY IT'S DUCK SEASON, AND I SAY FIRE! -

Well if they can't do a proper crash game without the employees then why not pass crash franchise to another big company.
Like Travellers Tales
or
High Impacted Games there good

The thing about the pass over from Traveller's Tales Oxford to Radical, when creating Crash Tag Team Racing (or rather, Crash Clash Racing as it was in the early days with T-Tales) was that Radical had just been introduced to Vivendi as a company to develop games for their publishing. Ergo, Radical was under Vivendi (or rather, Sierra) as T-Tales Oxford was, before the company closed. Which means for that to happen, again, I'm assuming current publisher Activision would move the Crash franchise to a different in-house developer. Vicarious Visions is currently one of them, in regards to previous Crash developers. Of course, this is providng Activision even want to continue their Crash series, since the staff layoffs don't even seem to make any sense given Radical's commercial success for them.
As evident from a couple of Radical staff members, though (well, no-longer staff members, rather), "both projects are cancelled."* This could mean a variety of things, but given Radical has two teams; the Prototype team and the Crash team, one would assume that this refers to both of their next games.
The worst that can happen, at this stage, is there will never be another Crash game, due to Activision no longer wanting do continue the franchise and no other publisher buying the rights. The mid-road thing that could happen is that any plans for a 2010 Crash game would be cancelled, providing there was one, but future games will continue. The best thing that could happen, in some people's eyes, is for the developers to switch to another in-house team and the series then continue. There's a lot of possibilites. I'm remaining hopeful on that Crash will still be developed, but I would be lying if I say I haven't been utterly crushed at what has happened to the team, as well as the fate of the series.
The last time staff layoffs happened, a few other developers took them in, as evident from Mind Over Mutant's credit vocal clips, since it occurred towards that game's completion. Here's to hoping 2010 will improve and all of those Radical members will be able to locate new jobs, soon.

Stuff just keeps gettin' worse. I'm hoping they'll get someone else to finish the game, but I'm doubting it.
I just can't believe Activision is doing this for no justifiable reason. The games make money, so they lay off the people making 'em? Makes no sense.
Well, here's hoping Crash's next home is a good one. If there is a next home anyway...I SAY IT'S DUCK SEASON, AND I SAY FIRE! -

If might not even be Activision's fault, or even Activision who did the firing. No source specifies who is to blame for the people laid off, at Radical. I'm assuming it's Activision, though. Either way, the firing of members doesn't make any sense. -
6. Re: Bad News at Radical... February 12th, 2010, 4:11 pm
This doesn’t mean that Radical isn’t making Crash games anymore, but with the fact that there will be fewer employees at Radical, it could take them a little longer to produce a Crash game. However, if the Crash franchise does get passed on to new developers, I hope that really do Crash justice.
My question is: “Who will bring us Crash this year?”
Honestly, I don’t really care what development team does, just as long as it’s a game for all major systems (because the mobile games just don’t work).Life's a trip. Trip out on life.

Activision was responsible for the lay-offs, Smaz. Activision also CLOSED LuxoFlux, did some heavy layoffs at Neversoft (Guitar Hero) and closed both Red Octane (Guitar Hero controllers) and Underground. That's probably somewhere around half a thousand people laid off yesterday.
Oh, and btw, guys, Radical is officially done with Crash, as both of their games (They had more than one team at Radical, one Crash, one other stuff, obviously) were cancelled. The studio is only one team now, a mere fraction of what it was in 2008, when it had 400+ employees.
Surely Smaz and I cannot be the only two that care that hundreds of people lost their jobs yesterday because of a careless action by a large corporation. Sure, it happens often, but that doesn't make it any more fair.If only you knew. -

Well I hope the series does get passed on to another development team!
I need at least one last good Crash game to come out before they stop for good, seeing as MOM was awful!
Activision, I recommend Insomniac Games!!Formerly CrashManiac -

Well who knows we might get a surprise of a new game done by someone else unless 1 of the past developers.
If not then it will be another break to wait until next year.

To Jump:
Wow… Radical is finally done with the bandicoot… dang… who knew. I do feel bad that all of those people lost their job… that’s horrible… So, nobody knows who will carry the Crash Bandicoot torch next? Is Crash officially over and done with? (I sure hope not)…
This was sad/depressing news, but news nonetheless.Life's a trip. Trip out on life.

Wait a minute. Remember, what happens when a smaller company can no longer continue a franchise? Its gets bumped up the latter to the larger company.
I know this might be a wing and a prayer, but right now, the Crash franchise can be developed by Activision themselves. Even then, knock on wood, Activision goes out of business, they're together with Blizzard. A franchise can continue IF there's a strong fan-base and a team with creative ideas can stay together.
But if the franchise is truly over, then before the mods can go ahead and close the Crash forums for good, at least sell it to a good company.
Double Fine would be a good company, if we want Crash to stay funny. I dare someone NOT to laugh at the humor of Tim Schafer. I dare them.
Or EA. They practically own everything, including a zip code if you can actually believe that.
Better yet, like Tomb Raider, sell it back to its creator. Give the franchise back to Naughty Dog. Even if those guys don't make another Crash game, the only time that they ever really OWNED Crash, was just the very first one. After that, the rights were sold to Universal and the rest is history.
Its never over until you say its over. Wait a little bit longer, and if nothing, to the Mods: you can go ahead and close the website and the Crash forums... no one is coming.
Until then, that Wumpa Fruit is still fresh. Don't throw it away. -

Activision themselves are not developers. There are teams that develop games that use the Activision logo, but Activision themselves are not developers. They do not develop games, they publish them. Blizzard is, but they're strictly RPG unless I'm mistaken.
Double Fine would be a most excellent developer, though, I'll drink to that. EA themselves are, again, just a publisher. Do they seriously own a zip code?
Tomb Raider is currently developed by Crystal Dynamics, who is not the original creator. The original team behind TR was Core Design. The publisher of TR has always been Eidos Interactive, who was recently bought out by Square Enix (I don't know if their logo or Eidos' will appear on future TR games.)
And Universal has always owned the rights to Crash. ND just created the concept. Fun fact, the owner of Crash Bandicoot has never once changed. Universal was the original owner, and they were merged with Vivendi, and became Vivendi Universal, where they still owned Crash, and then Vivendi bought Sierra Entertainment, and Sierra became part of VU. Sierra's logo was put on Crash, and then VU merged with Activision, and the Activision logo was put on the games. The owning parent company is still Universal.
In all likeliness, if Activision continues to use the Crash license, it will probably be developed by either one of their large owned developers (Treyarch, Vicarious Visions, Neversoft) or some new upstart developer. If only you knew. -
16. Re: Bad News at Radical... February 17th, 2010, 5:02 pm
Well maybe Neversoft could take over they might save crash and develop him.
Similar to Spyro's developer who just started DOTD.

meh. If never soft took over Crash we would get "Crash Bandicoot: Pro Skater - TO THE EXTREME!"
I'm still with Insomniac Games. they would do a fine fine job. Either that or give it to Media Molecule (LittleBigPlanet). Maybe then we will get a PS3 crash game!

Wow, I wonder if some of the layoffs by Activision may be the reason Crash had no new game last year. It is now debatable whether there will be a new game this year or not. However, one positive event to look out for is the franchise's 15th anniversary next year. Things may look good for him next year. -

Hey Jump, I know this is an old post, but I thought I'd chime in to correct your time line as I worked at Sierra in the late 90s/early 00s. When I first worked there, Sierra was owned by Havas Interactive (side note: Blizzard was one of our sister companies at Havas.) Vivendi acquired Havas in 1999. Vivendi acquired Seagram in 2000 (who owned Universal Studios, where Crash was too) and renamed the company Vivendi Universal.
Many of the games that first came out out with Vivendi Universal logos on them, financially tanked and garnered a bad reputation for the label. Sierra still had a positive image as a publisher, so that's why the Sierra logo ended up being on Crash games. When Vivendi Universal (containing Sierra, Blizzard, etc) merged with Activision, they renamed it all Activision Blizzard. It's pretty much positive brand awareness.
You are correct about everything, just needed to flip flop Vivendi buying Sierra, then Vivendi merging with Universal, and why Vivendi Universal dug out the use of the Sierra logo later on.
I'm really really sorry to hear about the layoffs at Radical. I really enjoy the games they put out.

Treyarch or Nevrsoft. Vicarious didn't do so hot with CNK. Even if Krome Studios took over, it'd be good. Crash needs a new perminate developer home.Life's a trip. Trip out on life.

Don't believe this, but Activision has made a big mistake, way bigger than that of Electronic Arts (creating mediocre games, that is)...
...I say give CB to Rockstar Games, and let's have Grand Theft Auto: Wumpa Island!
-sarcasmOMG!!! GTA, COUNTER-STRIKE, LEFT 4 DEAD, HALF-LIFE, SPECIAL FORCE, METAL GEAR, NEED FOR SPEED, NBA 2K9, NBA LIVE 2009, SPYRO THE DRAGON AND ROHAN IS MUCH BETTER THAN CRASH BANDICOOT!!!
